Wanaka boasts a plethora of activities and attractions to be enjoyed throughout the year, from simple low cost activities such as scenic walks around Lake Wanaka to more extravagant adventures such as sky diving or heli ski-ing!

No matter what your travel budget, interests or time frame, there is something for everyone to see and do in Wanaka.

For those looking for unique attractions and activities, Wanaka has plenty to keep you entertained!  Puzzling World is a wonderful family attraction on a wet day! Located near the entrance to Wanaka, Puzzling World offers the world’s first “modern-styled” Great Maze, incredible Illusion Rooms, a Puzzle Centre, Café, Gift Shop plus eccentric architecture and oddities.

However if local history is more to your tastes then you will need to take a 20 minute drive into the rolling hills of the Cardrona Valley to discover one of New Zealand’s oldest hotels… the Cardrona Hotel. Established in 1863, this unique hotel has a fabulous restaurant and bar, large cottage garden with playground, roaring indoor open fires and a unique ambience in the quiet surrounds of a historic gold mining area.

Outdoor activity enthusiasts will never want to leave the Wanaka region!

During winter the township is a popular place to rest and play while enjoying the local slopes and seasonal attractions, including Cardrona Alpine Resort, Harris Mountains Heli Ski, Snow Farm, Snow Park and Treble Cone Ski Area.

Mount Aspiring National Park is a World Heritage park and is the third largest park in New Zealand. The Lake Wanaka township provides some of the easiest access to the entire park. Considered one of the most spectacular pristine wilderness areas anywhere in the world, there is plenty of local scenic walks, regional short walks and longer walks and tramps to suit all levels of fitness and enthusiasm!

Other popular outdoor adventures include mountaineering, mountain biking, horse trekking, fishing, guided hikes, hunting, kayaking, jet boating, hang-gliding, tandem sky-diving, white water sledging and much, much more!`

Of course if you prefer a more relaxed approach to your Wanaka holiday, don’t despair! Why not enjoy a scenic flight over the majestic mountain ranges, or a chartered sail boat ride across Lake Wanaka, game of golf, garden tour, wine tasting, farm tour or beauty spa treatment.

Even a trip to the local movie theatre is new and exciting! Cinema Paradiso showcases movies and live theatre and has even been mentioned in the Lonely Planet Travel Guide! Of course it may have something to do with the comfy old sofas, seats in an old Morris Minor, a cafe and bar serving delicious meals before, during or after the movie, homemade ice-cream and hot cookies that are on offer!
