Places to Stay

Picton is truly a remarkable place when it comes to offering a variety of accommodation for visitors! From comfortable and affordable motels for those staying overnight before or after catching the ferry, to upmarket waterfront holiday apartments, functional backpacker lodgings, quint B & B’s or truly magnificent lodges nested in the Marlborough Sounds – whatever the budget or reason for being in Picton, you are bound to find a style of accommodation to suit.

For those seeking that special accommodation where luxury and attention to detail is standard fare – welcome to Picton and the Marlborough Sounds! The historic Sennen House provides the discerning traveller with an elegant haven of relaxation and tranquillity set within 5 acres only a short stroll from the Picton township. McCormick House is another luxury bed & breakfast located in Picton, while the stunning Raetihi Lodge is nestled on the waterfront in a secluded bay in Kenepuru Sound, perfect for guests seeking an intimate, luxurious retreat. Of course not all luxury accommodation has to be hosted, if you prefer self-contained luxury 301 Oxley’s Rock is for you. Located in the heart of Picton with a fabulous outlook over the Picton marina, this modern self-contained apartment is a luxury home-away-from-home for couples or families.

Luxury accommodation doesn’t end with resorts or apartments; even the holiday parks are serious about top service and amenities. Guests can choose from a range of accommodation at Top 10, including tent and powered campervan/caravan sites, comfortable cabins, fully serviced self-contained unit and park motels. Picton Campervan Park is the closest park to the interisland ferry and is a small, friendly park set in picturesque grounds, while Waikawa Bay Holiday Park is the only holiday park with views of the bay. As a popular year round destination for holidaymakers and corporate travellers alike, the Picton region now has some good hotel choices, including the central Picton Beachcomber Inn and the 31 room Yacht Club Hotel with its excellent conference and function facilities, restaurant and bar. However, if you prefer your hotel to be ‘just that little bit different’, The Portage Resort Hotel is only a 10 minute boat ride from Picton and is a renowned lifestyle resort with spectacular views in the Marlborough Sounds.

Surprisingly, for such a small township there is a strong contingent of motels to choose from. All are highly competitive and many offer special deals for weekends, off peak and long term stays. You can find some excellent motel providers such as the popular Gateway Motel, which is located amidst the shops and restaurants of Picton’s main street and just a short walk from the ferry terminal. Other local motels include Jasmine Court, which faces the harbour, and Bay Vista Waterfront Motel located in Waikawa Bay.

There are also some really good choices for Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the region. Bed and Breakfast options are popular with tourists, combining the best of private bedroom accommodation and shared living spaces. This is a great way to meet new people and get the ‘low-down’ from locals on the best places to eat, things to see and activities to do.

Budget accommodation is also easy to find in Picton, with backpacker lodges and hostels being popular for two reasons, firstly, they offer very affordable clean and comfortable accommodation, and secondly, they are a great way to meet like-minded travellers. The YHA Anakiwa Lodge is a modern 5 star lodge with excellent facilities, only a 25 minute drive from Picton. If you prefer budget accommodation closer to Picton, the YHA Picton is a centrally sited hostel in a converted older style guesthouse. There are other budget accommodation options available in Picton, simply pop into the local Visitor Information Centre upon your arrival for further information regarding budget accommodation and backpacker lodgings.

Like most people, I have many passions, goals and dreams. As a self made business professional, my focus is helping my clients, associates and friends, build, strengthen and maintain their success. It would be fair to say I am in the full time business of building relationships and feel my purpose and skill is connecting the right people with the right people. My professional work tends to dominate my personal life, to the horror of my partner and business mentor. They both fully support me yet give me the hard truths when I need to hear this. I am always investing in my personal development to have a fulfilled work/life balance. I enjoy Target Shooting, Hiking & Mountain Biking to clear the brain and to take the guilt away when indulging at a quirky cafe for a cooked breakfast or brunch. My passion for travelling has seen me experience the world on many occasions, my next adventure will be doing the Tibet Rail Journey on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway from Lhasa to Golmud as long as they have Wi-Fi aboard ;-) I have many goals I still wish to achieve but am pretty chuffed that I have accomplished so many of these already.
