This seems to be a great site, so I registered! I adopted a GSD/Huntaway mix from Animals SOS here in Wgtn, and am celebrating his 4th birthday (ie 4 years with me) today! He was in a pitiful state, having been tied up in someone's backyard for about 2 years (beats me why they bothered to get a dog in the first place), being abused and starved. Loads of hard work later, and I now have a happy, healthy and fairly well-adjusted boy. Just wanted to pop in and say that sometimes it may seem like you want to give up on those "harder" cases, but it is well worth all the effort. My boy, Billy, is more aloof than my previous dog, and is not a "velcro dog", but it sure lights up my day when he comes bouncing down the hall when I get home from work! I can recommend taking on an adult rescue - they seem to turn out so well !! Hope to contribute to your site and make lots of friends, although it seems most of you live in Akl!!

thanks for the welcome...have to admit i'm a novice as far as icons go - i have a lovely photo of my lad, but don't yet know how to downsize it to show anyone!
ps - lived in Akl for a year - didn't suit me at all - i like wgtn better!!
you all sound like you've got loads of animals - i only have Billy - he's not the best with small furry or feathered things - altho we did (finally!) manage to get him to stop trying to chase (and destroy) one of my best friend's cat! Still we get out and about twice a day, and go for "outings" in the weekends - he gets on well with other dogs (big and small) so is not a total social reject <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Hi 7, You're not alone ... I'm in sunny Wgtn! My Harley (7Mth LH GSD) wasn't a rescue dog, but one of our two cats was from the SPCA - prior to Holly & Spike, I had a gorgeous wild cat which we saved from cat flu when she was a kitten. The vet said she'd be a gonna - but she gave us 7 years of love & cuddles. Incidentally, Harley would love to play with my two cats, but at 12 they find him totally offensive and tell him so! I could add my two young children in there - but they aren't as furry as my other three 'kids'.
