October 2011 Newsletter for The German Shepherd Rescue Trust
Adoption numbers now at 942
I’m happy to report that again this last month has not been over run with unloved and unwanted dogs needing homes. During Denise’s absence Liz and I have managed all queries and dogs that have come in – and gone out! We’re very happy to report, that among others who have been placed, one little dog who had been in foster care for some time has now gone to a wonderful family. Most of the other dogs who have come into care have been able to be placed without going on the homes needed page.
Temporary absence
Denise is still out of action to a large degree so I will continue to field any calls or Emails that might have gone to Denise. Liz of course will continue, in her role as adoptions coordinator, to deal with adoption applications and arranging home checks. There hasn’t been anything we couldn’t deal with during Denise’s absence and will continue to do so for as long as is required.
A personal thanks to Colleen for stepping in and taking care of things during my sick leave. I am pleased to report I am progressing better than expected even though the surgery was a bit more than first anticipated. It has been made so much easier by the smooth running of things by Colleen and Liz during this time. Thanks so much, you are two wonderful ladies, I almost feel redundant but I must admit I am quite enjoying my first break in 8 years.
Denise.
Christmas Party
With Christmas only 2.5 months away now it’s time to start thinking about our Christmas party. We’ll provide details of the event as time draws near but we are always welcome to have the assistance of keen volunteers to help with set up, dismantling after the event, to help with catering requirements etc. so make sure you start thinking about it all now.
When – Sunday November 13 2011
Where – New Zealand Kennel Club Grounds, Clevedon Rd, Ardmore
Time – 10.30am onwards
Warmer Weather
As the weather warms up and summer gets closer (although as I sit here today with the rain smacking against my window I do wonder…) don’t forget about your pets’ needs i.e. a shady, cool place to lie on hot days, plenty of fresh, clean water – and fleas! If your dog is a water lover or perhaps still a pup at heart who likes to toss things around consider more than one water bowl on the property and think about the type of water bowl – can your dog easily turn it over leaving him or her without water for the day? And fleas – they love the warmer weather so be extra vigilant with your flea treatments. And think about the time of day you exercise your dog – don’t wait until 11.30am to take your dog for a 1 hour run! Consider early morning and late evening walks and runs when it’s cooler and more comfortable for everyone.
