We have never been in the business of building stand-a-lone websites, as you are aware we have a website called New Zealand Information Network, and each time we get a new client we build them into our network.

Just a like a newspaper (now over 5000 pages), what we normally do is create a "classified section" such as Equestrian Products, and then we promote that section using existing websites already in our Network to get traffic to that area. It works very well and the client normally receives 80% more traffic than they would by having a stand-a-lone website, we encourage them to keep their existing websites as it is. In the case of Canterbury Equestrian she never had a website, so she gave us control of her domain and this was her property we sit it on top of the site we have made to promote Equestrian Products.

When she decided that she didn't want to continue using our services we gave her the UDAI number and instructed her to take he domain name away from our network at the end of the month when our contract finished.

The ironic thing was that she didn't like the software that we were using as
it didn't give her the ability to use discount coupons, so over a 6-8 weeks period we had been working on far better software, which would enable her and others to have discount coupons and many other features, the day we had finished and the site was ready to go she ended our contract.

We removed all the references to her business and only kept the images we loaded and cleaned up to look pretty.

At the very beginning, we explain to her in detail in front of four people how a website works within our network, esp the fact that they will NEVER own the website, however they can take with them any images or text that they provided me to help brand the website in her case she only had a logo that was taken from some horse company in the UK asking us to use that laughing saying I hope they don't see there logo on our site.

All the content (brand description) that you see at http://www.equestrian-products.co.nz Was written by our company and we have a signed contract stating that she understands that content is ours, and now he has been phoning all my clients, asking them if they understand that they don't own the website that Danny has built for them. It is not causing me much if any grief, I have only been notified by one of my clients that this strange lady was calling her, she told me she put her straight and said I know we don’t own it, it is part of the Network Danny owns.

Both are highly modified by us and are open source so she can get her new IT people to setup and new cart and load her products however we do not give our modified tricked out code to any other webmaster(s) and this is why we have the signed agreement (attached a copy for you)

The shop did over $25,000 in sales in 12 months and that is pretty good for a no name phrase “equestrian products” and this will be used for my next like minded horsey company.

We are in the business If building up traffic with key phrase as I tell clients "market what you do not who you are "Canterbury Equestrian" said they did need me to market there name as she has a great name and people will go there, it took 3 months before we sold ANY products and once we got in the Search Engine we sold 25k in 9 months and the traffic was not coming from the phrase Canterbury Equestrian. That lady was hell bent on her www website address been success if the site that I even helped her get the domain the last web guy owned canterburyequestrian.co.nz ($200) and in the mean time we used canterbury-equestrian.co.nz (now expired)

How would I go about giving her the website anyway? I would need to make sure of so many things basically would need to set it up on a server that matched our settings.

If she had loaded the images and descriptions why does she not have a backup? I always said make sure you keep backups! If they have a little understanding of computer and the Internet, that is not my concern, However I did try 3 times to help them get a better understanding, there shop is 160km round trip and I went there 3 times (in poor health) to help out and they only had dialup! Took them 3 weeks to get ADSL and I offer to do it FREE on the day! I never charged for my time only to setup and website and market the products they load.

Why set up a stand alone shop in a quiet street when you could have a site in the middle of a busy mall with traffic already flowing through. We have premises throughout our Network with targeted traffic ready to lease right now!”

Don Clarke Canvas And Saddlery are looking at taking over the lease however they do not own the website, domain nor the content within and until we get all there products online we have removed there details from http://www.equestrian-products.co.nz <http://www.equestrian-products.co.nz/> so you will need to direct all other matters to our company lawyers.

We do have a VERY good understanding of Google however we don’t control Google Results you need to contact them about there search results. It surprises me that someone would try to claim copyright after they freely use another companies logo as there own, we are in the process of notify the copyright owner about this.

Dear Bruce (and other readers)

I am totally bewildered they you can post one sided information about any one person without asking for there side of the story 1st. If you were out for real facts you would have contacted me for my side of the story first, like the Dominion Post has.

Considering I am dyslexic, left school at 14 and spent the majority of my working life as a painter and decorator, the internet has certainly given me the opportunity to have a very successful and thriving business.

You have given me such a hard time simply because way back in 1999 I made the claim that I was “New Zealand’s Leading Internet Consultant” when there was no category for an “Internet Consultant” and at the time that was what the internet was all about. In the 1990’s, it didn’t matter what level of skill you were, you had the power to create/market any business product or service and have as much chance of showing in the results as the best marketing companies.

So rather than sitting there watching, I took the opportunity with both hands and ran with it, over the years, as you would agree, my skill level and the websites we produce are to a much higher standard.

Considering I am meant to be a “cowboy” in this industry, I think my portfolio of clients speaks for itself, just to name a few of the companies that I have helped build into strong New Zealand businesses such as; Pegasus Rental Cars, Pacific Horizon, Kiwi Car Car Rentals, Ace Rental Cars, Black Water Rafting, Glacier Guiding Company. At one stage my network was responsible for looking after 45 different rental car brands, many of these companies have replaced my services, with their own IT department. Today I still have a fantastic client base and many satisfied customers.

It is a shame that you focus on one negative client who does not have a good understanding of the Internet, rather than focusing on the good. You seem to take delight in slamming me for being unethical when my marketing techniques are unique and deliver results that are often 3 – 4 times more effective than more competitors.

For example, one of my clients decided that paying for a “professional looking” company to build him a super-duper online shop for $30,000 had to be the way to go, the online shop he had with us was selling between $12,000 – 15,000 worth of $20 -$80 products per month, and within 3 months of leaving us the shop went down to selling just $2,000 worth of products! If the client had consulted me I would have recommended him purchasing a new Domain name for the Hot Shots and leaving the original as it was, so it could of kept working for him while he tried something new.

So the client saw the error in his ways and returned to us and set up a new shop worth $3,000 and a monthly fee of $300 and we to date have only managed to get the shop up to $7000 - $8000 of products per month, simply because by him moving away destroyed a lot of optimisation work we had in place.

If we simply did the same as every other web master I wouldn’t be were I am today. I love my business and I have spent many years building it up to were it is today, I also employ people who love working with me and share the passion of marketing new businesses and helping them grow.

Your comments are cutting and cruel and totally out of line, and naturally I take it personally. Today I have been in Hospital having surgery and one of the things on mind while in recovery was what a year it has been for myself.

13 months ago I went through a very painful and messy divorce, which left me with no home (I had a large beautiful house in the country), no assets, virtually broke and almost lost my business, also had expensive court cases and then forced to borrow large sums of money at ridiculous interest rates to cover the divorce settlement. To top it off I also had a life threatening infection which has taken me most of the year to recover from.

I wouldn’t have made it through as well as I have, without my clients, who gave me untold support.

This year I have invested so much time and energy back into my company that I am so excited about the future. In the last 6 months I have set up the office with all the latest Mac products, installed a new server, hired a creative writer, a programmer (who is a mate of yours!) a office administrator and I am about to employ a salesman to be on the road selling our new on-line shops, and have just purchased a new HSV Holden for myself to get back on the road. So we are not going anywhere, we are part of the New Zealand Internet scene.

We did win a Net Guide award one year for being New Zealand’s best Kiwiana website, and I think that describes our network well.
