Hi all, Denise is out of action at present in a lot of uncontrollable pain with a trapped Femoral Nerve, unable to sit, walk or even stand for any length of time, she may yet still have to be hospitalised. As Denise is on really heavy drugs to help try to control the pain, Rescue has had to take a bit of a back seat. Colleen and I will be dealing with anything important that can't wait. Denise has asked please that any messages be sent to me on liz.gsdrescue@xtra.co.nz & I will print them off & give them to her. She is unable to hold any conversations on the phone at the moment & hopefully she will be back up very soon. In the meantime if there is anything that either Colleen or myself can handle please contact one of us.
liz.gsdrescue@xtra.co.nz or on 021 261 4622
colleen.gsdrescue@actrix.co.nz or on 027 625 7501
Thanks everyone

Get better very soon Denise! I'm sure you know the place is in good hands with Colleen and Liz running it, so don't you worry!

(I promise to keep the mess to a minimum while you're away :p)

Thank you for your confidence in Colleen & myself, so far all things are running smoothly. Even collected the calenders from the printer yesterday so they will be put in evelopes today & for those that have paid will be posted. They look awesome, I think each year they get better & better.

Tomorrow morning at 8.15 Denise is having 2 injections into her spine. These injection should hopefully take away the pain at least for 4hrs & could take up to 3 weeks to get the full results.
Long story short 2 disc/vertebra have collapsed & have trapped the femoral nerve, Unfortunitely because the gap between the discs is very small it could mean the injection will have to be repositioned if it doesn't go in first time, which mean Denise may have no feeling in her leg for a short time due to the needle hitting the nerve. So here's hoping the specialist gets it the first time. People have told Denise it is painful but as she said can't be any more painful than what she has now. If this all goes according to plan Denise may actually not be so high of the drugs & be able to read some of the emails & think more clearly.
If Denise doesn't update the message board tomorrow for some reason I will put an update on tomorrow evening.
So good thoughts for tomorrow would be appreciated.

Updating on me. Yesterday was the first time in nearly a month that I could walk without dragging my right leg behind me to walk. The transforaminal injections are kicking in, specialist said it could take up to 3 weeks, and it has been 9 days since I had them so I am pleased about that. The incessant, unbelievable pain has GONE, still have sensory changes in my thigh due to the trapped femoral nerve but well on the way to improvement. As a normally very active person it has been hard to have been housebound for this length of time, unable to do anything except stand or lie down. I am now able to sit for short periods so hopefully things will continue to improve so I will soon be driving. Everyone has been fantastic from my work place to those stepping in giving me a hand with rescue. I have had so many well wishes in email form, cards and flowers it has been overwhelming. Huge thanks to Liz who stepped up and carted me off to the various appointments, (nothing quite like something like this happening the day after your husband goes away bush for two weeks and no cell phone coverage, but mind you easier to suffer on ones own in some respects. Liz has gone above and beyond what I expected, with never a complaint. Colleen has been doing what she can given her work schedule and I appreciate both of them so much. My aim to be be on two feet and mobile for the Christmas party.
Thank you to everyone who has been concerned about me, I feel so honoured being on everyones minds during this time. It has been one of the longest months and most painful months in my life. My two GSD's, Genie and Maya have been so very good, they seem to know mum has not been right and have never been pushy or demanding attention, just sitting close to make sure I am alright, dropping their balls on the couch for a game of catch, or Maya doing the sneak up from the bottom of the couch, along the side to just lie beside me with her head on my shoulder. Who could wish for better companionship
