I have a friend in the USA and hes wanting to come to NZ. Hes nearly 40. Has an extensive CV - including ski instructor, landscapingmanager and solar heating technician/installer. He has no formal qualifications tho he could formalise the ski instructor one if need be.
His other concern is he has had 3 dui convictions in the last 10 years and under Californian law has to go on programmes etc. two of them were nearly ten years ago and the last one was early this year(he was sober for 4 years prior and then messed up)He has not served jail time for any of them, and currently is on work release- I guess its like periodic detention in NZ!
He knows hes made a mistake, and he just want to move on and make food of his life. Hes a hard worker and not afraid to get his hands dirty.
He is really wanting to make nz his home. He is learning Te Reo and has a genuine interest in thic country.
We met online earlier this year and have been dating, I have been and stayed with him last month and hes hoping that he can get residency here so we can formalise our relationship (rather thatn it being on skype daily!)
We would appreciate any advice that you can offer in regards to the best way to proceed this residency/visa application forward. He is very overwhelmed with the forms and if anyone even has some advice that can simply things down for him that would be great.
I guess the the first part is if someone can identify the best way to approach this
With many thanks for your time in reading this essay of mine
I look forward to your replies

Hi Sparkle15 - apologies for the delay in replying. Whilst we have a licensed Immigration Agent on the site who will generally respond to questions via the forum I think in this instance I will copy and forward your question to her direct because there is quite a lot of personal information that will need to be disclosed in order to make an assessment.

I will e-mail this to her tonight and I would expect her to e-mail you within 48 hours.

Hope that helps a little.

It would have been nice to know the answer to this publicly. Just in case some of us might have the same question.

Hi Avid

Thanks for your post - your thoughts are appreciated.

There has been huge changes with Immigration Consultants here in New Zealand over the last couple of years. All Immigration Agents have to be licensed and registered under the IAA (Immigration Advisors Authority). These IAA agents must work to a Code of Conduct and IAA guidelines.

Questions of a very generic nature can be answered without any major issues, however, where the question is not straightforward, each person must be assessed on an individual basis. The information that Sparkle gave (and personal information given behind the scenes) is a) confidential to that person and b) their scenario may not match someone else's. Therefore if an answer is posted, and others apply it to themselves then there is already potential inaccuracy which won't correctly assess that other persons specific scenario.

Our Immigration Agent at Simply NZ offers FREE eligibility assessments so all enquiries can be taken and assessed on an individual basis.

However they will be looking at the immigration questions posted here closely over the coming weeks and offering generic advice where possible.

I hope that helps :-)
