Hi there

I am a South African citizen, female 22 years old. I am currently in my last year of Social Work studies.
My partner is also a South African citizen, 39 years old, female. Her job description is a typist for a nursing college as well as other admin work.
We have been researching New Zealand and we would like to explore the possibility of emmigrating.
Please can you email me information on how I can go about doing this. Any information will be helpful! (Visas, regulations, etc).
Also, any possible scholarships if any?
And please can you refer me to someone that I can ask questions to about NZ? (ie: study loans, etc).

I need information on how exactly- step by step to immigrate! (And the cheapest way).

Lastly, I have a two year old dog that I wish to bring with. What are the regulations for this? And what is the quarentine period, etc?

Thank you so much

Samantha Beaumont

Guide to Importing your Pet

The requirements for bringing animals into New Zealand vary greatly, depending on the type of animal involved and which country you are bringing it from. A series of Import Health Standards set out the requirements relating to specific animals and specific countries. In addition, there is an Import Health Standard that specifies the conditions for bringing in various equipment associated with animals, such as cages, accessories and grooming supplies. If no Import Health Standard exists, an application form for the development of an Import Health Standard for an animal or germplasm is available.

Cats and dogs coming from Australia, United Kingdom/Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Hawaii and Singapore do not require quarantine, but do require certification and will be inspected for ticks on arrival.

Should your animal be imported from a specified country or territory where Canine rabies is absent or well controlled, such as the United States, consult the following Import Health Standard. If you are importing from and island country where Canine rabies is absent or well controlled, consult the Import Health Standard for Dogs and Cats from Specified Island Countries.

Registered Quarantine Facilities for Cats and Dogs

There are five MAF registered quarantine facilities for domestic cats and dogs into New Zealand.

For importations where a post entry quarantine period is required a Permit to Import will NOT be issued unless the importer has a letter from a quarantine facility stating that a space has been booked for the animal.

For all enquires relating to the costs involved with quarantine and the conditions of quarantine (feeding, visitation rights etc) the operator of the facility should be contacted directly.

The following facilities are registered and permitted to quarantine dogs and/or cats from specific countries:
