Unfortunately someone close to me witnessed a horrendous beating of a young GSD on Monday night at Churchill Park School. She was out with her two small children and didn't have her phone on her so was not prepared to put her children in the line of fire given the violence they witnessed. She heard someone yelling and turned to see a large man (described as 'Mark Lundy' looking chap) grab a young GSD and punch it in the head. He then threw the dog to the ground and continued to punch her again. His wife/partner, a young child and a poodle type dog who had been with the man, simply turned and walked away. The man then dragged the dog to the ground and each time she tried to move he'd punch her in the head again. Then he body pressed her laying his whole body over her and pinning her to the ground, each time landing another punch to her head or body when she tried to get up! Then he simply pinned her down - perhaps berating her or eye-balling her into submission. This continued for 20 minutes(my friend and her children were on their bikes - they rode away but after 20 mins could see the man and dog in the same place and same position! Her children were very upset)

Even though an SPCA van passed by as they walked home, my friend was not able to flag it down in time. The SPCA were called but not until the next morning because her children were so upset by what they had seen. The SPCA said to call back if they saw the man again. So my friend went back last night with her phone this time but without her children and the whole family and both dogs were there again. The GSD's name is Abbey. The woman is a 'sour faced' person in her 50s, and as the child rode by on their bike Abbey was told to follow. She did so apparently more out of duty than because it was fun or she wanted to. The dog seems very oppressed, slunk down in her rar end but my friend kept her distance (SO WOULD I!) because she thought the guy realised she was watching him. Again the woman, child and small dog left the man alone with the GSD but this time he picked her up and cradled her like a baby - the dog didn't resist. It seems his reaction was more for show than anything tonight because he thought someone was watching him.

So my friend called the SPCA again from the school to say I'm here now I can see the dog and the man please send someone over now. She was told if the dog was not injured there was nothing they could do and she must ring back in business hours! OMG!

If you live in the area (Glendowie) and are around Churchill Park School at about 7.30pm watch out for this group, in particular the man and the GSD Abbey. He has to be stopped.

What is more appalling is that there were a number of people around watching a juniors soccer game the night of the beating and two men specifically turned to look at the man beating the dog and no one stepped in - two men together would have been a much safer bet that a woman and her two small children. I'm sick to my stomach that something like this could happen in a public place and no one would help! I cannot believe it!

The SPCA will be called again today- I'm totally disgusted but if anyone happens to see this 'group' please let the SPCA know immediately - the more complaints they get hopefully the more chance Abbey (who appears to be a young dog) will have (and probably the other little dog - and maybe the wife and child as well!)

Call the police. tell them you can identify the man. tell them what happened, they can charge him for cruelty to an animal and if they play up for them....well even better....

I have emailed a dog loving friend in Glendowie, who has a very tight mum network in her neighbourhood smile

Not sure the meeting there one night would work, as it may just cause him to keep it at home and then we may never be able to stop him!

Keep up the good work all - all dogs need us

Oh my god I so feel for that young GSD, as this will stay with it for its life.

Just a though, if you see him again just watch and see if he gets into a car and take the number and report to Police and SPCA.

Good luck as if this person does this to a dog what would he do to his dhildren and woman in his life.

The police should have been called. We all know there is a direct link between animal cruelty and child abuse and spouse abuse.

Abbey needs to be removed from the terrible environment she is currently suffering in.

Who else in the household is suffering??!! more than just Abbey the dog we can be sure of that.

Something must be done, and soon.

That is so bad that the SPCA will not get involved, what are they there for?!
It's a cruelty case and they should be trying everything to rescue that dog and get it out of that situation.

The SPCA here in Kawerau were very dont want to know about puppies etc they are for cats and kittens, Rex changed that in many ways , but as Rex hasnt been working for 7 months I will check on this, as ALL SPCAs are for all animals. Will let you know in a couple days.
I had come home on friday from a opp in whakatne hospital and was in bed and one of our friend a local cop called in and I told him about this and he read it and said get the police involed, maybe say its a child been beaten and they will be their ASAP.

The same if you need to go to ANE call 111 and you get things done

Good lick

Update:

My friend in Glendowie has forwarded on the information to the local vet, trainer/groomer and the school and the 18 strong mums of the neighbourhood.

Fingers crossed we get some resolution soon before its too late

We went to the school twice in the weekend but because it was a different time (i.e. not 7.30 at night) we didn't see anything. My sister is going back tonight at the same time to see if they're there. I just hope he hasn't twigged he was being watched and moved on to somewhere else! If not, we'll get him!
