It is two weeks since I last was with my lovely old boy and gave him his last command. I find that I am missing Mr Steele every day, think of him often, and wish he was here to take for a walk, give him a brush, or scratches in his fav places.

The two weeks have gone fast, sadly I have had a family bereavement due to injuries as the result of a motorcycle accident last week. My cousin was hit by an inexperienced driver and died on the operating table.

This weekend I will go and pick up Mr Steele's ashes. My lovely vet sent me the most heartfelt letter. I love reading everyones posts and how they are doing. One day I will know it is the right time to take on another GSD rescued dog, but it is still far to raw for me.

Having been having some very vivid dreams Denise, I am awake at this time as I dreamed of Steele, woke happy and smiling, thought fantastic he is not gone, then realised it was a dream. But could not get back to sleep. I think this is probably normal.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your cousin Annie, my condolensences to your family. Yes it is normal but has time goes by you will take comfort in knowing that he is with you. I don't think they ever leave us. When I knew I was losing my Kayla, who had made special friends with a child with terminal cancer, she spoke to me about dying - a very brave 6 year old girl. She told me to love Kayla the absolute most I can then she will live in my heart forever just as she will for her mummy and daddy. Mr Steele certainly was loved by you, so he will always be there, in your heart. Smile at those moments of sensing him, because he is just letting you know your heart is working.

Annie, when my mum and dad passed away I thought my world would end. I had lived with them right up until the time I married - never flatted, or rented - they were my best friends. About 6 wks after Dad passed and after many sleepless tearful nights I had the most vivid dream of Dad (even now I can't share it and it's 16 years ago) but I woke smiling and relieved because I knew Dad was released from the terrible pain and suffering he'd endured over many many years and he'd found his special place where he was calm, peaceful and pain free (I had a similar dream for Mum when she passed 3 years later). I think maybe Steele is finding that special place of his own and letting you know he's almost there.

Dear ColCol,
Thanks for your beautiful words and sharing your special memories of your parents and feelings of grief. I think you are right, and I know it was the best for Mr Steele. Yes ColCol, my dear old boy is happy now, pain free and health resorted, running in the lush green meadow, where time stands still, I know he will be waiting for me, and that we will meet at the Rainbow Bridge.

I go this Saturday to pick up his ashes.

Thank you,
Annie

Hi Denise, I love the thought that when I think of him - he is letting me know he is OK, that is a lovely comforting thought. It is heart breaking to think of a angelic six year old girl suffering with cancer, how courageous she could speak of feeling loved so much by her parents that she knew she would live in their hearts forever.

Time for me to pick up Mr Steele's ashes, I better not leave him alone at the vets any more.

Thank you, Annie

I am so glad you have Mr Steele home I found it helped me knowing my girls are home were they belong.

A couple weeks after I lost my Selena, Shelly and I were at the park and I sat down while Shelly played with friends and I feel a lick on my hand and when I looked down my hand was wet and very warm, Shelly came to me one day when I was walking out to get the mail, she was on my side healing as she did in the shows.
Every night they sleep in my room and I have photos of them on the wall and I would swear they watch me in the bedroom were every I go.

My love and thoughts are with you both

Thank you Toots for sharing your experience with Shelly that is so lovely.

I was a little apprehensive outside the vets but once I was inside it went quite well, Mr Steele is now back home, I have placed him on my bedside table, it is such a comfort actually to have him here again.

It feels right. Perhaps that is why I have not been able to sleep through the nights these past few weeks?

Annie
