Hey everyone,

Been awhile since I've been on here but kind of need some help. Not sure if I'll have enough information but any advice would be appreciated.

A friend of mine has a Border Collie, aged 9 and she has been rather sickly for the past couple of weeks. She is not eating and not drinking, been taken to the vet where she was kept overnight and put onto fluids. Vet I think has done tests and she has kidney failure and liver failure but then they sent her home and my friend can still not get her to eat or drink.
And she can't get hold of the vet now, as being the weekend I'm not sure.
Any advice?

There is an afterhours vet less than 5 minutes from me on the corner of Ellice Rd Angie.. Plus Forrest Hill Vet (Dr Mike) is open 7 days a week 365 days of the year. 10-5pm Saturdays, Sunday and public holidays, 7.30 - 7pm Monday to Friday. Maya got struck down with her illness on New Years Day and I was so thankful FH vet is a 7 day a week. Even open Christmas Day and you can't get more of a public holiday than that.

Firstly, I agree, most areas have vets available on call 24/7.

Secondly, I am sorry Denise you have been through more doggy stress, but glad to hear Maya is recovering well.

Thirdly, had some stress of my own last night. Was about 8pm last night, we were sitting outside and suddenly Buck (9 year old GSD) started turning round in circles, trying to sit down, turning round in circles, trying to sit down about 20 times. He was clearly uncomfortable, panting but was responsive the whole time. I wondered if it was maybe constipation because he did do a couple of big bowel motions, then another few circles, then seemed to settle down. After about 15 minutes he was completely normal. Funny thing is, this time last year (I just went back to my post on this board dated 15 Jan last year)he did the same, although last year it was worse as he laid on his side, panting, almost unconcious. We had friends there at the time, and their opinion was that it was related to the heat, as it was a very hot evening.

When I went to VSG last year re another matter, I mentioned the episode to the specialist, and he said you could do all the tests under the sun and never find a solution and it may never happen again. He also outruled epilepsy as he said that normally happens to dogs under 5.

Has anyone had any experience with their dogs similar to this??

I have a vet appointment at 11am tomorrow.

PS: I am so annoyed I missed Denise on TV the other morning. Does anyone know if you can watch a rerun of the programme online, and how to get in??

I forgot to mention that yesterday morning I was concerned as he seemed to be walking oddly, like on one side, but then he came right. Even took him for a 15 minute walk and he was completely normal.

Update on the vet visit Lou, any explanation for a likely cause, seems weird symptoms.

The TV programme was about 5 years ago, Maya was still my 'foster dog' at around 16 weeks. She is 6 this March. I missed it to but I have it recorded the first time but now I haven't got a VCR only a DVD - the VCR side of it broke. Will have to see if I can get it put on DVD.
