Kelly Tarlton’s launches Marine Wildlife Trust Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Encounter & Underwater World will today celebrate its 25th anniversary and launch the Kelly Tarlton’s Marine Wildlife Trust.
The Trust will be officially launched by Auckland Mayor John Banks and the CEO of Kelly Tarlton’s,, Mike Horne, at an event to commemorate the attraction’s quarter century milestone.
Mike Horne hopes that the Trust will help to educate the public as well as aid in helping to further protect our marine life.
“New Zealanders are incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful marine environment on their doorstep. Alongside that privilege however comes the responsibility to ensure we protect it for future generations. Kelly Tarlton’s Marine Wildlife Trust, with your support, is committed to doing just this,” says Horne.
The primary objective of the Trust will be the rescue and rehabilitation of sick or injured marine wildlife – and their eventual release back into the wild.
The second objective will be to educate the general public about the importance of protecting our marine environment.
Kelly Tarlton’s is one of New Zealand’s most well known attractions and continues to go from strength to strength. To date more than 11 million visitors have experienced its exhibits.
Education is a strong focus with more than 50,000 school children visiting every year to learn about the importance of protecting the oceans and marine life.
The attraction boasts an Antarctic Encounter where visitors can take a snow-cat ride to view New Zealand’s only colony of sub-Antartic penguins.
Other attractions include Stingray Bay, which is home to the 200-kilogram-stingray Phoebe, and a replica of Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s 1910 hut.
