Kurow is a popular base for hunters and anglers visiting the McKenzie and Waimate district.

The Waitaki River is renowned for its excellent trout and salmon fishing from late November to April while Kurow is renowned for its fabulous duck and geese hunting.

There is also plenty of excellent hunting to be had in the surrounding hills.
