Hello,

Is it true that people in New Zealand are advised to use SunBlock ?

Regards,

Ali Ismail

Hi Ali

No matter where you are if the sun shines use sun block but more so in NZ because the atmosphere is clearer for one thing.

June,

You mean it is not related that the ozone layer above NZ is thinner than in other places ?

I could be that as well but it is always safer to use a sunscreen the higher factor the better. I am not well up on ozone layers. Maybe someone else can answer that. That's if anyone else comes on here now.

June

Hi There

Its true. The hole in the ozone layer is actually above Antartica. You can have a look on Wikipedia, its quite scarily big! As NZ is one of the closest countries to the Antartica is is one most effected by the suns rays not being filtered by the ozone layer.

Its always good to wear sunsreen in hot weather & bright sunshine but dont forget that its also very good to get vitamin D from the sun... as they say, everything in moderation is good.

Yes.... the sun sure does seem hotter in NZ!

You may also find that if you hang out dark coloured clothing in the summer time, the sun will bleach them!

The sun is very hot here, at least comparable to Phoenix, my home town, where it is extremely hot. Sun block is essential, the stronger the better. (I use SPF 50). Darker-skinned people can probably get away with less, but that is an uninformed guess. Hats are a good idea, too. And sunglasses.

The ozone layer is thinner here which accounts for the difference, but there is also less pollution. Note that you get your vitamin D regardless of using sun block, and you need only about 20 minutes a day for the proper dose of D. Be careful in the sun, especially on the beaches, but enjoy it.

PS. If you live in Jordan you must be used to sun and heat.
