Great question!
Some grasses are better than others due to the root structure, which makes them better for surviving hot and dry conditions.
There are two categories for grasses - being winter Active Grasses and summer Active Grasses.
WINTER ACTIVE GRASSESBent GrassVery attractive grass however it has low tolerance to heat and drought and is high maintenance. Definitely not a grass for hot climates.
Kentucky BluegrassThis is also an attractive lawn grass but once again hasn't got much tolerance for heat.
Fescue (Tall)Has a moderate tolerance to heat and drought but is good with wear and tear. Tolerates shade, making it one of the best winter grasses.
RyegrassWaterholic grass that is fast growing with medium wear and tear but very low tolerance to heat.
SUMMER ACTIVE GRASSESBuffaloThis is a tough and hard-wearing drought tolerant grass identified by its course leaves.
