Hello people.
You may have read in another posting that we had applied to adopt from GSD Rescue, however, things have worked out different - but the same!

We are adopting a Labrador - GSD cross mix. She is the size of a labrador. She has been at the SPCA for nearly 3 months. She gave birth to pups there and they have been rehomed but it appears she was not to go to anyone elses home other than ours as no one wants her .

Her new name is Grace.

The adoption all came down to one day - yesterday and what a turmoil - keep Grace or keep with GSD Rescue application.

The decision is made now - keep Grace, but I never thought I would have to make such a choice.

Grace will keep our 8 yr old Gena (GSD) company. We even were looking at a male companion for her as opposed to a female! Who knew eh?

Hi Foxy, as I said in my private email to you this has worked out how it was meant to. You have given a dog a chance of life, you were in the right place when she needed you. Who knows what happens later maybe a GSD Rescue dog will end up being Grace's companion some time down the track. That is a lovely photo of your precious girl and you all have a wonderful Christmas together and let us know how things go.

Grace had been a guard dog and apparently very aggressive. She was beaten also.

But who would know now.....

Hi Foxy, I resized your pics as they were rather large. She does not look aggressive at all in those photos. Bit like the dog recently rehomed and we were told could not be with cats. Big sook is giving the cat a wide berth, not the least bit interested in tha dangerous furry thing.

Yes Grace has so far- touch wood - showed no aggression at all towards people or dogs. I had been walking her frequently when she was at the SPCA and she has been really good.

The SPCA staff all love her due to her changes and her ability to get into one's heart.

I still can't believe she is ours and appreciated your kind words.

We had a lovely lab/GSD mix in our class until she was adopted recently. I would challenge anyone who met that girl to say anything negative about her. She was the most wonderful mix and looked very similar to Grace. How wonderful for you all - meant to bes - I really believe in them!

Well done, Foxy! Your family are giving Grace the best Christmas present she has ever had!

In December 2004, I came across this website. Our 9-year-old GSD, Panzer, was dying of cancer. We were all set to pick up a GSD called Porsche one Saturday - meet Denise with him outside the dog grooming place in Albany. Porsche's owners had left him at the pound and Denise had bought him a stay of execution from Thursday to Monday. However, the owners picked him up that morning. Panzer was still actually with us and we had Chloe, our (10-yr-old) Boxer, so we focussed on making Panzer's last days with us as comfortable and painfree as possible. He died peacefully at home the morning we were going to take him to the Vet to help him on his way. A week later, we adopted Jack, an 8-11 year-old Boxer, through Boxer Rescue. Jack had been with Diane from Boxer Rescue for six months - picked up just a skeleton with skin on and a gaping wound on his thigh, but the picture of health by the time we saw him. Jack was a delightful dog and he was the right dog at the right time. He enjoyed all the exercise I gave him and his thigh muscles were built up with all the swimming and uphill walking. However, I always felt he was somewhat uncoordinated and after we had had him for 18 months, he started losing control of his bowels. A visit to the Vet, who was sure he most likely had a brain tumour and he would only get worse. I had a new baby at the time, so made the toughest decision of my life to let him go before he lost his dignity. I could've persevered with him and made him sleep outside, to spare the carpet in the study (the dogs' bedroom), but that would've been too hard for him to understand - and what was I going to do with Chloe - I couldn't do one thing with one dog and not the other. Dear old Jack. I know we gave him the best 18 months (2 years, with Diane's previous care and love) of his life and he was such a gentle, loving boy in return. He was wonderful with the new baby - protective when he thought he needed to be, but never any sign of jealousy.

After Jack's crossing the Rainbow Bridge, we decided to keep to just having one dog. Chloe (now 12 3/4 yrs!) has always been fantastic with the cats and children...that was until Dudley's photo gripped my heart and the rest (and all I've just said) is already on this website back in January/February 2007!

I attended the German Shepherd Rescue Trust's 2005 Christmas party with two Boxers (felt very conspicuous!) and the 2006 one with Chloe, who even competed in the dress-up race and the oldest dog competition! Both years, I remember thinking to myself "I wonder if I'll ever be part of that Parade of Champions" as I watched them with tears in my eyes.

As Colleen said, Grace is meant to be with you, you lucky things - she's gorgeous - look at that smile on her face! She knows she's onto a good thing! Have a very Merry Christmas!... and who knows what GSD is around the next corner...perhaps.

Alison, Dudley #511 & Chloe

Thanks to all the the kind thoughts and words.

Grace is a special dog. She is always looking deep into my eyes telling me she wants to be with me and loves me.

It's actually been quite emotional - very unexpected.

Thanks again, Merry Christmas to you all and your families.
