- The maximum open road speed for vehicles over 3,500kg is 90kmph (this includes campervans).
- All vehicle occupants must wear a safety belt or approved child restraint at all times.
- Cycle helmets are compulsory.
- Give way to the right and indicate when entering and leaving roundabouts.
- New Zealand Police actively discourages drinking and driving with mobile breath testing operations in most areas.
- If you are stopped in a random breath test operation, you are required by law to comply. You are also required to give your name, address and produce your driver licence.
- The penalties for drink-driving are severe and your vehicle could be impounded in certain circumstances.
