Hi mine is almost 13 and the same history as yours. I give him Glucosomine Chondroitin every day and it seems to do the trick. I took him off for a couple of days to see if it made a difference and he could barely get up, never mind walk. So back on the pills and he sometimes forgets and takes off at a trot.

Hi Lila, In Banas's post in May the poster said they were moving to Australia in October - hopefully he still checks the board and will answer your question. Has your vet discussed the condition known as degenerative myelopathy with you. Signs to look out for are delayed propioception, (when the rear foot is placed with the top part of the foot to the ground - a healthy dog will immediately return to normal position and affected dog will be delayed in returning. The tops of their rear toenails also get scuffed due to them dragging their feet. It is very similar to multiple sclerosis in humans. It is a very common condition in German Shepherds occuring from about age 7 onwards.

I'll try to find a message that goes back some time but it was from Hayley regarding Ash's Hips. Ash was 10 at the time and showed great improvement after starting on some of the products I told Hayley I was using for my girls. Good thing is they all occur naturally in the body and can't really do any harm - they'll either work or not but I haven't yet heard of seeing no improvement at all. My advice would be stay away from NSAIDs if you can!
