MOTORSPORT NETWORK 22/10/01 Immediate Release<P>A Great Day at Taupo<P>A big crowd enjoyed the Motocross action at the Energy Centrepoint sponsored, Taupo Motorcycle Club Labour Weekend Extravaganza at "Digger McEwen" Park in Taupo over the weekend.<P>The 490 entries ranging in age from 4 to 50 years came from all over the North Island. Saturday saw racing for mini-motocross and Juniors, with Senior racing on Sunday.<P>The feature event was "The Nicky Smith Memorial", contested since 1993, the Memorial was set up in honour of Nicky Smith, after her death in a car accident. Nicky worked at Energy Centrepoint and was a great follower of Motocross.<P>Although contested by all size of machines, 250cc machines were dominant in this year s race. Napier s Ben Harding on his Honda CR 250 won from Auckland s Chris Maitland on a KTM 250.<P>In the other National Classes, Auckland s Damon Smith won the 125cc class on his KTM.
