Everyone has been asking for a Kayla update: so here goes.
She is reasonably well settled here, we still have to supervise her outside as she very easily gets spooked and could take off. Which is what happened yesterday when she was briefly left alone, but the good news is she came home by herself, even if it was at 3am!!!
She gets on extremely well with our other 2 shepherds and likewise they like her. She shows no fear of our farm animals either, nor is she aggressive.
She has a lovely rather cheeky personality, especially if she thinks that she is getting away with something shes not meant to, eg.stealing the cat food.

Thankyou for the update Heather, I'm sorry I missed her the other day. Tell me something "How does she get on with the cat"? I remember her barking at one of these cat shaped figurines that are outside when she first came into Rescue. I'm glad she is finally showing a personality of her own & I'm sure you will notice abit more of it each day as she becomes more settled.

She ignores the cats, they in turn ignore her!

Just as it should be

Nice to see you participating Heather. Rather a worrying birthday for you. Trust Kayla to do a disappearing act on the day all the adoption papers were finalised. The good thing about this is that she certainly knows where home is now.
I really enjoyed my visit with you yesterday and your little girl Kristy gets more adorable every day. I was rather pleased she didn't want her afternoon nap as I was able to have one of her special hugs. She is just like a little doll.
It was indeed a great relief to get your phone call this morning

I'm so glad I didn't see this all yesterday! I bet your hearts were racing when you couldn't find our girl (as Richard said Kayla is everyone's dog)! But she came home. You can't help wonder how she got lost in the first place! And if you think about Job - the poor SPCA dog making recent headlines, and he's jumping around like nothing had happened - it makes you wonder what on earth Kayla must have been through. Still all that's behind her now!

The thing that made us not as concerned this time is that even though Kayla had "disappeared" somewhere in the 10+ acres Heather and Richard have, there is a perimeter fence so she had to be somewhere within the property. She is not a fence jumper - she goes under things when frightened. As it is bush is is pretty hard to pinpoint anything. We just had to wait it out for those worrying hours and keep everything calm and quiet so she would have no reason not to return. If we had gone tramping through the bush she may have taken flight at strange voices and we would be in for a repeat of last time. We know now that she can tottle about in the paddock without fear of running off as she knows where her home is now.
