The bubbly was popping as the Remarkables Ski Area celebrated its opening day on Saturday.

Manager Hamish McCrostie said it was one of the best opening weekends ever.

"Everyone is just buzzing, there's so many families here, it really is just perfect – couldn't have asked for better."

While lots of people joined in activities on the streets in Queenstown on Saturday, Mr McCrostie said hundreds had hit the ski slopes during the weekend.

"Beautiful days, lots of happy people, good snow and good live music."

Opening conditions were excellent, aided by consistent cold conditions, good snowfalls and the field's new state-of-the-art snowmaking system.

"Our trails are looking amazing," Mr McCrostie said.

Work over the summer widened trails in the Easy Out and Gotham City area and provided easier access back to the Sugar Bowl chairlift.
