Snowmaking at the top the Morning Glory ski run at Mt Hutt, with the top of the triple chairlift ski run in the background.

Snowmaking has been going strong since Friday night, with guns kicking off for the season and blasting out snow non-stop for a 16-hour period.

Ski area manager David Wilson says cold temperatures and early snow have provided an excellent start to the pre-season build-up.

“We have spent the last couple of weeks installing snow guns and getting the systems ready to operate and were really excited to fire up the system late on Friday afternoon,” he said.

Superb early winter conditions at Mt Hutt had led to an early start to the ski area’s snowmaking programme.
