golf course regions

marlborough

This sun-soaked, peaceful region lies across Cook Strait from Wellington and includes the wonderful Marlborough Sounds aquatic playground.

Marlborough's superb climate and great natural beauty combine with rich alluvial river gravels to produce some of the country's best wines and gourmet produce. The overall result is a laid-back, salubrious lifestyle that is the envy of other areas. This lifestyle includes 9 fine golf courses, which are listed below together with brief comments on some of the notable ones.

Marlborough club can be found on Paynters Road at Fairhall, just 6 km southwest of Blenheim. The par 71 course is a partly undulating, park-like course that sets a high standard in grooming and is a joy to play.

Rarangi is located in Main Road, Rarangi, 15 km north of Blenheim on State Highway 1. This par 72 course is very attractive and is designed in the classic links-style with flat tree-lined fairways with pleasant shoreline views.

Kaikoura is located beside State Highway 1 - 160 km south of Picton, close to the well-known Whale Watch HQ. The 5,591 metre, par 72 course is well placed as an intermediate stop on a journey from Picton to Christchurch. Although quite short, the course loses nothing in terms of an exacting challenge in keeping tee shots straight down the narrow, tree-lined fairways. Walking is quite easy on this flat course and the views of the imposing Seaward Kaikoura Ranges are spectacular.
