From the moment you drive or fly into Queenstown you will be swamped with a huge selection of holiday accommodation on offer. From backpacker hostels and campgrounds, to affordable motels, friendly bed & breakfast, luxury lodges, boutique apartments and world-class hotels, there is always somewhere to lay your head at night.

Due to the unique layout of Queenstown, you can choose to stay in the heart of the town, go lake-side, get a mountain or lake view, go countryside or escape away from it all. From as little as twenty bucks to thousands of dollars, Queenstown has the accommodation to suit your budget and holiday requirements.

Due to the popularity of Queenstown with young travellers, the area has an impressive number of backpacker accommodations on offer, including the popular Queenstown Lakeside Backpackers, which as the name suggests, is located beside Lake Wakatipu and only a short stroll from the heart of town. The YHA has two locations in Queenstown, one being lakeside and the other in the central town.

If you prefer to get a bit closer to Mother Nature, there is a small selection of camp grounds with cabins and holiday parks for campervans and motorhome travellers. The award winning Queenstown Top 10 Holiday Park ‘Creeksyde’ is only metres from the town centre and provides a range of accommodation, including powered and non-powered sites.

There is a great range of quality motels located throughout central Queenstown. Motels are working in highly competitive industry and it pays to shop around as many offer special deals for weekends, off peak and long term stays. You can find some excellent motel providers such as the family friendly and very affordable Lakeside Motel and familiar favourites including the Bella Vista Motel brand.

Bed and breakast style accommodation is growing in popularity due to an increase in the number of tourist visitors keen to experience genuine New Zealand hospitality in a warm and friendly accommodation environment. Bed and breakfast lodges and houses combine the best of private bedroom accommodation and shared living spaces. This is a great way to meet new people and get the ‘low-down’ from locals on the best places to eat, things to see and activities to do.

Another style of accommodation that is proving to be very popular is self-catering holiday apartments and holiday houses. These provide visitors with the comfort of a totally self-contained house or apartment and the privacy of being self-catering. This can also be a less expensive accommodation option for groups or families staying in the area. There is a huge number or private accommodation providers, however some professional providers I will recommend include Lakefront Apartments, including their luxury St Omer Penthouse, the Queenstown Holiday Rentals group for self-catering holiday houses and apartments and Bellehaven Apartments for serviced apartments and self-contained holiday accommodation.

Luxury accommodation is a serious business in Queenstown, and there are some truly fabulous world-class hotels and sumptuous resorts for those that can afford to holiday in total luxury. Some of the more well known upmarket accommodation providers include Blanket Bay, widely regarded as New Zealand’s leading luxury lodge, Qualmark 5 Star Pencarrow, Peppers Beacon, Eichardt’s Private Hotel and the Sofitel Hotel to name just a few.
