Taupo

Be sure to visit the tranquil peace haven of Taupo and it’s surrounding locations. The region provides numerous water sport and adrenaline pumping activities and amazing geothermal and scenic attractions.

Being serene and captivating, the township is renowned for it’s majestic lake (Lake Taupo), which portrays a unique environment set against a backdrop of lush green hills and encompassed by a vast landscape of unspoiled forestry. Lake Taupo is 160m deep and fills a volcanic crater covering 619skms. It was created by volcanic activity only 2000 years ago (a fact recorded in Chinese history) and is similar in size to Singapore, which house a population comparable to New Zealand.

Fishing on the crystal clear waters of Lake Taupo and fly fishing on the nearby rivers of Tongariro, Waitahanui and Tauranga-Taupo, are favourite pastimes for locals, as well as popular tourist activities. Catches of Rainbow and Brown Trout are abundant, with the benefit of year round seasons. An estimated 750,000 trout swim up the world famous Tongariro River every winter to spawn.

Other activities in the area include hunting, horsetrekking, mountain biking, abseiling, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, hot air ballooning, parasailing and kayaking or white water rafting. For the extreme dare devil, attempt a jump from Taupo’s bungee/bungy jumping platform, hovering 45-47 metres above the surface of New Zealand’s longest river, the Waikato; or alternatively from the back of an airplane in a tandem skydive.

Taupo’s newest and hottest adventure, the Greatlake Superjet, is becoming increasingly popular, offering an exhilarating ride onboard one of New Zealand’s fastest passenger boats. Explore the Waikato River, with stunning views of cascading waterfalls, secluded bays, legendary islands and Maori rock carvings.

Located approximately five minutes from the township of Taupo are the spectacular Huka Falls. Enjoy stunning aerial views by embarking on a scenic helicopter flight, which also tours the volcanoes of the North, or challenge yourself to a fast paced jet boat ride. The Huka jet operates 365 days of the year weather and river conditions permitting. Professional drivers guide you past New Zealand’s only geothermally heated prawn farm, while expertly maneuvering the jet to slide past precipitous cliffs.

There are many walks within the boundaries of surrounding bush clad forests, including the well visited Wairakei Tourist Park, where you can view some of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna.

The spectacular park is also home to Wairakei International Golf Course, which has been rated by US Digest magazine as one of the top twenty courses in the world, excluding the United States of America.

Geothermal atmosphere attracts visitors to the famous Creators of the Moon, offering bubbling mud pools, thermal activity and lunar landscapes. Mount RuapehuSteam bores and pipes harness this energy at the world’s second largest geothermal power plant, which is also within the park’s vicinity.

Experience the enchantment of skiing or snowboarding the icy slopes of a live volcano at Tongariro National Park, located 1 hour south of Taupo. New Zealand’s first National Park was created in 1887, with three magnificent volcanoes in the area: (Mount Ruapehu,Tongariro and Ngauruhoe). The largest, Mount Ruapehu, has three skifields on its slopes. Whakapapa and Turoa are New Zealand’s two largest, while the third (Tukino) is a smaller country orientated field.

Like most people, I have many passions, goals and dreams. As a self made business professional, my focus is helping my clients, associates and friends, build, strengthen and maintain their success. It would be fair to say I am in the full time business of building relationships and feel my purpose and skill is connecting the right people with the right people. My professional work tends to dominate my personal life, to the horror of my partner and business mentor. They both fully support me yet give me the hard truths when I need to hear this. I am always investing in my personal development to have a fulfilled work/life balance. I enjoy Target Shooting, Hiking & Mountain Biking to clear the brain and to take the guilt away when indulging at a quirky cafe for a cooked breakfast or brunch. My passion for travelling has seen me experience the world on many occasions, my next adventure will be doing the Tibet Rail Journey on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway from Lhasa to Golmud as long as they have Wi-Fi aboard ;-) I have many goals I still wish to achieve but am pretty chuffed that I have accomplished so many of these already.
