Wineglass Bay and Hazards Beach Circuit (56)

Camping Gear New Zealand

great-short-walk-mapFollowing on from the walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout, this is regarded as one of the greatest of all Tasmanian walks. The 10.km (3.5hr) return circuit follows the coast and along the foothills of Mount Mayson.

From the lookout the track descends to Wineglass Bay and then cuts across the neck of the Freycinet Peninsula to Hazard Bay, before following the coastline along Great Oyster Bay back to the car park.

Of course you may choose to walk the track in either direction, however, most visitors eager for a first glimpse of Wineglass Bay choose to visit the lookout first.

The long walk, as with the walk to the lookout, is rated as Level 3 and suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness. It is not recommended for people with health problems or of limited mobility, as there are some steep uphill climbs and a rough descent from the lookout to Wineglass Bay itself.

Good footwear, sun protection and clothing suited to the weather of the day are recommended. It is advisable to carry a light jacket or jersey, along with food and drink.

Park fees DO APPLY.

No pets, firearms or bicycles are permitted in the park.

Facilities:

There are toilets at the car park and picnic facilities are nearby.

Vehicle Access:

TakeC302 from the Tasman Highway (A3) to the walking tracks car park in Freycinet National Park.
