Paul RushThe Story - Paul Rush joined the team at NewZealandNZ Limited in June 2002 and has contributed a variety of quality material for New Zealand’s Information Network.

Paul is a full-time freelance travel writer and photographer, based in Auckland, and specialising in New Zealand and Australian tourism destinations. He writes articles and promotional literature for newspapers and magazines and is a committee member of Travcom (Travel Communicators Group).

Born in Wellington in 1940, Paul attended Rongotai College and Victoria University graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. Later he gained a Diploma of International Tourism from Auckland University. In addition he has undertaken a number of writing/journalism and photography courses. He enjoyed a challenging 30 year career in the national airline holding a number of administrative positions, which fostered his interest in travel and tourism.

Paul grew up with a love of the outdoors - tramping, hunting, fishing and diving. Building on his interest in the great outdoors he set up an adventure company in 1994. He became a qualified kayak and abseil instructor. Over a five year period Paul operated a fleet of 50 mountain bikes and fifteen kayaks and trained around 20,000 children and teenagers in mountain biking, kayaking, abseiling, bushcraft and caving.

Paul Eileen RushIn his free time Paul enjoys a variety of outdoor adventures. Some of his highlights include climbing Mt Taranaki (Egmont), Ball Pass (Mt Cook), skydiving, bungy jumping and scuba diving. A special memory is a 45 metre dive on the ‘President Coolidge’ shipwreck in Vanuatu.

Paul moved into the field of travel writing after selling his adventure business. He works in partnership with his wife, Eileen, who is skilled in word processing. They have been married 40 years and have an adult family of four.

Paul likes to explore and photograph the interesting corners of New Zealand and Australia and discover off-the-beaten track destinations. His extensive knowledge of New Zealand has provided a background for many of the summaries to be found on Top Resources at www.newzealandnz.co.nz.
