Both Hanmer Springs and Kaikoura is only approximately 50 minutes driving distance from Mount Lyford.

Mt Lyford is a popular year round Hurunui destination, however Mt Lyford Ski Resort is a great attraction for skiers and snowboarders during the winter season.

A wonderful place to ski with wide open spaces, varied terrain to suit all ski levels and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, the total ski area covers 400 acres of Mt Terako.

The ski field elevation is 1750m at the top of Mt Terako, 1510m at the Terako Basin lodge and 1249m at the Lake Stella area with a 450m vertical drop at Terako Basin. The terrain is suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced ski and snowboarders and lifts include a T-bar, Poma, 180m fixed grip, advanced tow rope and two platters.
The ski resort features a day lodge, cafe, ticket office, first aid area, boutique snow resort plus ski and snowboard hire.

Mt Lyford is proud to be a true alpine development and features a sub-division known as Mt Lyford Alpine Resort. The Log Chalet Village is nestled within a native bush setting at the base of the mountain. Many of the log chalets are available for holiday rentals, however most guests enjoy the facilities and rooms availabel at Mount Lyford Lodge. The lodge features motel and bunkrooms, restaurant, bar, outdoor spa and pretty mountain views. Other accommodation choices include luxury lodges, homestays or bed and breakfast lodgings.
